Valuing Our People

We believe our people are essential to our company's success

We also believe that an effective and efficient service can only be achieved through an investment in the development of our employees, ensuring they have the competencies, knowledge and skills to deliver our promises.

That's why we have developed a 'Talent Management Programme;' an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to developing our people and providing them with career progression.

Learning and Development

At Service Birmingham we take the development of our staff seriously. Our focus is on core competencies and now have over 90 members of staff with a PRINCE2 (project management) qualification, and a further 39 with an ITIL (ICT qualification).

The major theme of 2011 will be the implementation of a 'talent management programme' in order to create opportunities for our staff to develop their skills and become further empower staff to take advantage of the range of training and development opportunities such as internal and external training, e-learning, mentoring and coaching as well as secondment opportunities.

To ensure the company has skills and knowledge for the future, we have developed a skills assessment process. This allows specific training needs to be identified, not only to meet the requirements of the organisation, but also to support internal progression and employee career aspirations.

Recognition

As well as regular, informal recognition between managers and their teams we have a recognition programme called 'Going the Extra Mile' (GEM) awards.

Since 2006, over 200 employees have achieved this prestigious award for their hard work and dedication. These awards have proved so successful that we have extended the programme from being an annual event, to regular quarterly awards.

Leadership

Fifty of our top senior managers have been through a leadership development programme designed to enhance their leadership style and strengthen best-practice skills and tools.

As part of our ongoing succession planning, a middle management development course is now in place to make sure our upcoming managers have the necessary skills to be our leaders of the future.
